First Lite Shell & Outer Layers
Your last line of defense against wind, rain, and cold. First Lite builds their outer layers for hunters who are moving hard in unpredictable mountain weather — packable shells that live in your bag until you need them, insulated jackets that trap heat on glassing setups, and hunt-specific vests for late-season and public land compliance.
First Lite Flashstorm Jacket
Ultralight, packable waterproof shell engineered for unpredictable mountain weather. Packs into its own chest pocket and weighs almost nothing — until the sky opens up and it's the most important thing you brought. The backcountry hunter's go-to storm layer.
Shop Flashstorm Jacket →First Lite Corrugate Guide Jacket
A rugged, windproof softshell jacket built for cold, active hunting days. The Guide Jacket moves with you on hard climbs and protects you on exposed glassing ridges — durable enough for the brush, quiet enough for close encounters in the timber.
Shop Corrugate Guide Jacket →First Lite Uncompahgre Foundry Jacket
An insulated puffy jacket built for cold-weather sits, late-season hunts, and high-elevation glassing setups where staying warm in a static position is the priority. Packs down small when you don't need it and delivers serious warmth when you do.
Shop Uncompahgre Foundry Jacket →First Lite Charge Hunters Orange Vest
Hunters orange compliance without sacrificing First Lite's performance standards. The Charge Vest meets rifle season visibility requirements while integrating cleanly into a First Lite layering system — warm enough to matter, light enough to wear all day without noticing it.
Shop Charge Hunters Orange Vest →First Lite Foundry — Hunting Pants
Rugged softshell hunting pants built for steep, technical terrain. Articulated for full range of motion, durable enough for talus fields and canyon brush, and cut to move with you — not against you. Available in First Lite's Corrugate and Obsidian camo patterns for different western terrain types.
Corrugate Foundry Pant
First Lite's Corrugate camo pattern delivers maximum concealment in broken, brushy western terrain — canyon country, sage hillsides, and pine-timber edges where mule deer and elk bed. The go-to Foundry pant for hunters in classic western big game country.
Shop Corrugate Foundry Pant →Obsidian Foundry Pant
The Obsidian colorway blends into open rocky terrain and late-season alpine country. Same rugged Foundry construction, built for hunters who glass from exposed ridges and need a pant that disappears into open, high-elevation environments.
Shop Obsidian Foundry Pant →First Lite Kiln — Merino Midlayer & Base Layer
Heavyweight Merino wool that locks in heat without bulk. The Kiln line is the core of any serious cold-weather hunting layering system — hoodies, quarter zips, long-sleeve crews, long johns, and zip-off bottoms that scale with the temperature drop and work season after season without breaking down.
Kiln Hoody
Full-zip heavyweight Merino hoody that layers seamlessly over a base layer and under a shell. The November elk camp staple — warm enough to sit in at last light when the temperature crashes, packable enough to move in on the approach.
Shop Kiln Hoody →Kiln Quarter Zip
Heavyweight Merino quarter-zip midlayer with a high collar for neck warmth during early morning sits. Versatile enough to wear alone on moderately cold days or as a mid in a full layering stack when temperatures drop hard overnight.
Shop Kiln Quarter Zip →Kiln LS Crew
A heavyweight Merino long-sleeve crew base layer for cold-weather hunts where you want the warmth of the Kiln fabric in a more streamlined, crew-neck cut. Layers cleanly under any midlayer or shell without bulk at the collar.
Shop Kiln LS Crew →Kiln Zip-Off Long John
Heavyweight Merino base layer bottoms with zip-off legs for quick temperature regulation on the move. Put them on at the truck, zip off the legs on the climb, zip back on when the glassing starts. Built for hunters covering elevation on the same day they sit.
Shop Kiln Zip-Off Long John →Kiln Long John
Standard heavyweight Merino base layer bottoms for hunters who want maximum warmth retention during cold, static sits. The foundation of a late-season or high-elevation layering system — put them on at camp and leave them on all day.
Shop Kiln Long John →First Lite Wick — Lightweight Merino Base Layer
Lightweight Merino base layers for warm early-season hunts and high-output days in the mountains. Breathable, naturally odor-resistant, and soft enough to wear for days on end in spike camp without washing. The Wick line covers everything from crew shirts to hoodies to performance underwear built specifically for the demands of backcountry hunting.
Wick Hoody
Merino-blend hoody that wicks sweat on hard climbs and regulates temperature when you stop. The go-to early-season elk layer for hunters covering miles before the shot opportunity comes — natural odor resistance keeps you undetected on multi-day hunts.
Shop Wick Hoody →Wick Long Sleeve Crew
A lightweight Merino long-sleeve base layer for active hunting days and early season sits. Regulates temperature across a wide range of conditions — cool enough for a sweaty morning approach, warm enough for an evening sit when the air cools off.
Shop Wick Long Sleeve Crew →Wick Short Sleeve Crew
Lightweight Merino crew for hot weather pursuits, early archery season, and as a base layer under heavier Kiln pieces. Naturally odor-resistant through multi-day hunts — the piece that stays on your back from the first day of camp to the last.
Shop Wick Short Sleeve Crew →Wick Long Boxer Brief & Game Bag Brief
Merino performance underwear built for hunters who spend days on end in the backcountry. The Long Boxer Brief provides coverage and comfort for long days on the trail. The Game Bag Brief is First Lite's scent-control-focused underwear option for deer and elk hunters prioritizing odor management at the base layer.
Shop Wick Long Boxer Brief → Shop Game Bag Brief →First Lite Midlayers — Origin & Navigator
Versatile midlayers for hunters who need a piece that does more than one thing — warm enough to hunt in, packable enough to move in, and built with the same Merino-forward approach First Lite applies to every layer in the system.
First Lite Origin Hoody
A versatile midlayer hoody built for hunters who want one piece that works across a wide range of conditions — warm enough for cool mornings on stand, breathable enough for active approaches, and layerable under a shell when the weather turns serious.
Shop Origin Hoody →First Lite Navigator Hoody
A technical midlayer hoody designed for mountain hunters who need warmth that moves with them. Built for the transition between active and static hunting — layers efficiently and packs away cleanly when the terrain demands it.
Shop Navigator Hoody →First Lite Accessories — Headwear & Gloves
The details that complete a First Lite system. Merino wool headwear and gloves built to the same performance standard as the rest of the lineup — natural fiber, natural odor resistance, and comfort through long sits in cold conditions.
First Lite Rugged Wool Brimmed Beanie
A Merino wool beanie with a brim for sun protection during early-season and high-elevation hunts. Naturally odor-resistant and warm enough for late-season sits without the bulk of a heavier hat — the everyday hunting head layer for serious mountain hunters.
Shop Rugged Wool Brimmed Beanie →First Lite Rugged Wool Fleece Glove
A Merino-blend fleece glove built for hunters who need warmth and dexterity in the same package — warm enough to wear on cold morning approaches, tactile enough to draw a bow or work a trigger without taking them off. The glove that stays on when it matters.

Merino at the Core
First Lite builds every layer around Merino wool because synthetic alternatives can't match it for odor resistance, temperature regulation, or comfort on the skin over multi-day hunts. Merino doesn't stink after a hard climb. It doesn't freeze when it's damp. It doesn't scratch on a long sit. That's not marketing — it's why serious elk hunters came back to natural fiber. When you're three days into a backcountry elk camp without a shower, your base layer either works or it becomes a liability.
Designed as a System, Not Individual Pieces
First Lite engineers the Wick, Kiln, Foundry, and Flashstorm lines to work together — fabrics that layer without binding, cuts that don't ride up under a pack, and weight distributions that keep a heavy base light when the shell comes off. You can mix and match brands at every layer, or you can run a First Lite stack that was built to work as one unit. The difference shows after mile eight, when everything either moves together or starts fighting you.

First Lite Hunting Apparel FAQs
What is the difference between the First Lite Wick and Kiln lines?
Wick is First Lite's lightweight Merino base layer — built for warm-weather hunts, active days with a lot of elevation gain, and early archery season where heat management is the priority. Kiln is their heavyweight Merino line, designed for cold temperatures, late-season sits, and high-elevation or high-latitude hunts where heat retention matters most. Most serious western hunters own both and choose based on the day's conditions and activity level.
Is First Lite worth the price?
For hunters who spend real time in the field — multi-day elk camps, hard backcountry miles, early-to-late season chasing — yes. First Lite's Merino construction naturally manages odor and temperature in ways synthetics don't, which means fewer clothing changes in camp and less scent pressure on the animal. The pieces are also durable enough to last years of hard hunting. If you hunt once or twice a season in mild conditions, the price point may be harder to justify. If you live in the mountains during hunting season, it pays for itself in performance and longevity.
How does First Lite sizing run?
First Lite runs true to size in most pieces, with a trim athletic fit through the torso and arms. If you're between sizes or plan to layer heavily, sizing up one is a common choice — especially in the Kiln Hoody and Quarter Zip, which are worn over base layers. If you're unsure, call us at (208) 656-0616 and we'll help you find the right fit based on your measurements and how you plan to layer.
How do I wash First Lite Merino apparel?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a Merino-safe or scent-free detergent. Tumble dry low or lay flat to dry. Avoid high heat — it shrinks Merino and damages the wool fibers over time. Do not use fabric softener, as it clogs the natural wicking properties of the wool. Merino's natural odor resistance means you can wear it multiple days before needing a wash on extended hunts.
Do First Lite products come with a warranty?
Yes. First Lite backs their apparel with a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. As an authorized First Lite dealer, Mountain Archery handles warranty questions in-shop and can facilitate the claims process directly with First Lite. Warranty does not cover normal wear, damage from improper washing, or misuse. Keep your receipt or order confirmation as proof of purchase.
